Our Stories: John Zickefoose

Most likely, my first glimpse of St. Paul’s was in 1957 when my parents and I came to Des Moines to see the National Tour of My Fair Lady.  At the time there was only one theatre in Iowa which could accommodate the production, which required a revolving stage, and that was the KRNT Theatre, which was located just west of St. Paul’s.  If I had had a crystal ball—foreseeing that I would be working and praying just a stone’s-throw away from my balcony seat, and that my partner, Elvin McDonald, had a dear friend who was an actor in the company, the refrain “Get Me to the Church on Time,” would surely have resonated quite differently.
