St. Paul’s Cathedral Arts

Cathedral Arts was originally established as the Music Academy of St Paul’s by then choirmaster Ben Allaway almost 25 years ago, largely as a fine arts series. It supports the artistic offerings of the Cathedral, including musical services that also reach out to the wider community as part of our role as a cathedral located in the center of the city.

Over the years, the programming has evolved from mostly non-liturgical noon concerts (with lunch available and broadcast by WOI) and special events like organ concerts by nationally or regionally recognized artists, to a focus on what we do best--witnessing to the love of God through music in a beautiful sacred space.

 Our annual series includes:
·       The monthly Evensong services on a fixed Sunday (the third one each month during the program year, September through May), sung by the Cathedral Choir and/or the Howells Scholars, a semi-professional group of singers from both the St Paul’s Parish and the community
·       Organ recitals and concerts by our own organist/choirmaster Professor Mark Babcock and others around the area, throughout the year, particularly including Advent, showcasing our magnificent Casavant instrument
·       Sunday morning carillon concerts
·       Special services such as Requiem and choral masses and Lessons and Carols

Cathedral Arts is not fully funded through the Cathedral budget but is largely supported by grants and generous support of loyal patrons throughout the community.
